Huawei is gearing up to unveil its next flagship smartphone lineup the Pura 80 series on June 11 in China. The company confirmed the launch date in an official Weibo post and revealed that all models in the series will ship with HarmonyOS 5.0 out of the box.
Four Models Expected
Much like its predecessor, the Pura 70 series, the upcoming Pura 80 lineup is expected to include four variants:
* Pura 80
* Pura 80 Pro
* Pura 80 Pro+
* Pura 80 Ultra
These devices will succeed the Pura 70 range, which launched in April 2024.
Camera Upgrades Teased
While Huawei hasn’t released full specifications just yet, several credible leaks have offered a glimpse into the photographic capabilities of the Pura 80 series.
According to tipster Fixed Focus Digital, the video recording capabilities of the new phones are described as "terrifyingly strong," hinting at major upgrades in imaging performance. A launch poster shared by Huawei also highlights two camera lenses, suggesting a strong emphasis on improved optics.
Another well-known leaker, Teme (@RODENT950), posted alleged camera specs for one of the models on X. The phone is rumored to feature a quad rear camera setup, including:
• 50MP 1-inch primary sensor with variable aperture
• 50MP sensor (1/1.3-inch) with dual focal length
• 40MP ultrawide camera
• 2MP color temperature sensor
This powerful setup is likely to appear on the Pro+ or Ultra variant, based on its high-end sensor configuration. Leaked renders show the four cameras housed in a triangular module, paired with a pill-shaped LED flash.
A Look Back at the Pura 70 Series
For context, the base Pura 70 featured a 50MP main camera with variable aperture and OIS, alongside a 13MP ultra-wide lens and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera. The Pura 70 Ultra stepped it up with a retractable 1-inch 50MP main sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP macro telephoto shooter with both OIS and autofocus.
What to Expect
With HarmonyOS 5.0 powering the new devices and significant upgrades expected in camera tech, the Huawei Pura 80 series could be a compelling addition to the flagship market especially for mobile photography enthusiasts.
Stay tuned for full specs and features when the phones officially launch on June 11 at 2:30 PM CST (12 PM IST).
