Google is taking AI photo editing to the next level by bringing its popular Nano Banana AI to Google Photos. After gaining massive attention through Google’s Gemini AI, Nano Banana is now integrated directly into the Photos app — allowing users to describe edits using natural language and watch them come to life instantly.
What Is Nano Banana in Google Photos?
Nano Banana, Google’s lightweight AI model designed for on-device generative features, now powers “Help me edit” in Google Photos.
Here’s how it works:
- Open a photo in Google Photos.
- Tap “Help me edit” in the editor.
- Describe what you want (for example, “make the sky brighter” or “remove the person in the background”).
- Nano Banana will automatically apply the edit — no manual tools needed.
This feature turns photo editing into a conversation with AI, making it easier for users who don’t know advanced editing techniques.
Create with AI: Ready-Made Templates
Google is also adding a new “Create with AI” section in Google Photos. This will feature ready-made AI templates so users don’t even need to type prompts.
These templates can automatically generate fun and creative edits — from stylized portraits to festive photo collages — all powered by Nano Banana.
Availability:
- Rolling out this week in the US and India.
- Personalized AI templates will arrive in the coming weeks in the US.
The personalized templates will use insights from your photo library — such as your hobbies, travel patterns, or events — to create unique edits tailored to you.
Ask Photos Expands to More Countries and Languages
Google’s Ask Photos tool — the AI-powered search assistant that helps you find images using natural phrases — is expanding to over 100 new countries and regions and 17 new languages.
For instance, you can simply say:
“Show me pictures from my Goa trip”
or “Find the photo where I’m holding a red umbrella.”
Ask Photos intelligently scans your gallery and surfaces relevant results — no tags or folders needed.
However, Ask Photos is still not available in the EU or UK due to regulatory reasons.
New Ask Button and Redesigned Photo Editor
Google Photos now includes a dedicated “Ask” button, letting you quickly get answers or suggestions about your photos — such as identifying what’s in a picture or suggesting edits.
Additionally, the redesigned photo editor with AI edit descriptions is now rolling out to iOS users in the US. Android users already have access, and broader rollout is expected soon.
