Motorola Edge 60 Pro Gets Real Wood Finish But Only for One Market

Motorola Edge 60 Pro Gets Real Wood Finish

Motorola is bringing back the classic wood finish this time with the Motorola Edge 60 Pro. The company has officially launched a new “Basswood Walnut” wooden back variant of its flagship mid-range phone in China. This marks the second Motorola smartphone in 2025 to receive a real wood treatment, following the Razr 60 Ultra.

Real Wood Back is Back Exclusively in China

Motorola has a history of experimenting with unique materials, and the Moto X (2014) was one of the first phones to popularize wooden backs. After nearly a decade, Motorola is again tapping into nature-inspired design, with the Edge 60 Pro now available in a premium wood grain finish.

• New Color Variant: Basswood Walnut
• Material: Real wood (not faux or textured plastic)
• Region: Exclusive to China (at least for now)
• Variant: Available only in the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage configuration

Motorola notes that each wood grain pattern is unique, making every unit slightly different just like a natural fingerprint.

Recap: Motorola Edge 60 Pro Specs

While the new wooden back is the star of the show, the hardware remains unchanged from the original Motorola Edge 60 Pro models launched in April 2025.

• Display: 6.67" 144Hz pOLED, FHD+
• Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3
• RAM & Storage: Up to 12GB RAM, 512GB storage
• Camera: 50MP main (OIS) + 13MP ultra-wide + 32MP front camera
• Battery: 4,600mAh with 125W fast charging
• OS: Android 14 (near-stock)
• Special Feature: IP68 water & dust resistance

Original Color Options

Before this wooden variant, the Edge 60 Pro was available in three colorways:
• Dazzling Blue: – nylon-like finish
• Sparkling Grape: – faux leather (Pantone color)
• Shadow Black: – faux leather

The Sparkling Grape version isn't sold in China, so it's possible that the Basswood Walnut version might stay exclusive to the Chinese market, at least for now.

Inspiration from the Razr 60 Ultra

The Razr 60 Ultra was the first Motorola phone this year to get a wood finish, specifically the Pantone Mountain Trail variant. It offered four total material options: Wood, Alcantara, Vegan Leather, and Satin (North America exclusive). The new Edge 60 Pro wood edition borrows the same design philosophy, but with a distinct wood grain and finish.

Will the Wooden Edge 60 Pro Launch Globally?

Motorola hasn’t confirmed if the Basswood Walnut variant will be released globally. Given that:
• The Sparkling Grape version isn't sold in China
• The wood variant is limited to one region and configuration

…it seems likely that this may remain a China-exclusive. That said, global fans can expect a new color for the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion soon, which might cater to broader markets.

Final Thoughts: A Stylish and Natural Touch

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro Basswood Walnut brings a rare, refreshing material option to today’s metal-glass-dominated smartphone market. It’s not only premium in aesthetics but also eco-conscious and nostalgic for longtime Motorola fans.

If you’re in China and looking for something unique that stands out while offering flagship-grade performance under the hood, this wooden Edge 60 Pro is worth considering. For international users, we’ll have to wait and see if Motorola expands availability or maybe you can import one.
