Google is finally addressing a major criticism of its wearable lineup with the upcoming Pixel Watch 4 and it's a game-changer for repairability and sustainability. Until now, if you cracked the screen on a Pixel Watch, you were out of luck you had to replace the entire device. But with the Pixel Watch 4, that’s about to change.
The Pixel Watch 4 Is Finally Repairable
Previous generations of the Pixel Watch including the Pixel Watch 3 were known for their poor repairability. The sleek, domed-glass design looked great, but once shattered, there was no way to replace just the display. As a result, even minor accidents meant the entire device had to be swapped out. This wasn’t just frustrating it was also harmful to the environment and expensive for consumers.
Now, Google is making a much-needed pivot.
The Pixel Watch 4 is built to be serviced and repaired, a significant improvement for both users and e-waste reduction. While it still features a domed glass display, internal engineering updates now allow technicians to open and service the watch including replacing the screen. This could mean a much higher iFixit repairability score than the Watch 3’s dismal 4/10.
Brighter Display, Slimmer Bezels
While the design might look familiar on the outside, the Pixel Watch 4 brings key display upgrades that users will appreciate. Both the 41mm and 45mm models now feature:
• Up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness
• 16% smaller bezels (15% on the 41mm)
These changes will significantly enhance visibility in bright outdoor environments and offer a more immersive viewing experience especially noticeable on the larger 45mm variant.
Compared to the first-gen Pixel Watch, this is a massive leap forward in both aesthetics and usability.

Google has officially confirmed that the Pixel Watch 4 will launch on August 20 at its upcoming Made by Google Event in New York City. The event will also feature the debut of the Pixel 10 series smartphones, and possibly the Pixel Buds 2a.
